Description

Hey everybody!
As the new Volunteer Advocate Coordinator of Family Support Services, I am currently recruiting volunteers to help support and advocate on behalf of survivors of sexual assault. This is a responsibility that is best taken on by our unique and diverse Amarillo community. Without our volunteers, our program wouldn't even be half as strong. Do you w
ant to make a difference? Are you compassionate? Good at listening? Are you looking for a flexible way to make a difference in our community and others' lives?

If you answered “Yes,” Family Support Services wants you to be a part of our team!

Volunteer Advocates work directly with victims of sexual assault and family violence. When a sexual assault or family violence victim presents at the NWTH-ER or The Bridge, a Volunteer Advocate is dispatched to provide emotional support for the victim and his/her family members. The Volunteer Advocate stays with the victim throughout the immediate crisis, providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and information about services available. The FSS Volunteer Advocate Program is a Certified Sexual Assault Training Program administered through the Office of Attorney General. The training provides Volunteer Advocates 40 hours of training (10 of those hours are accompanying an experienced Volunteer Advocate).
