Who We Are

Turn Center offers expanded services in physical, occupational, and speech therapy in one convenient location.  The complex includes activity rooms, a large gym and play area, and spacious rooms for therapy and consultations.  Direct care is provided to children with disabilities and their families to help each child reach developmental milestones needed to function successfully in every day environments like home, daycare and school. Parents depend on Turn Center to be a leader in the latest evaluation & treatment methods for children with disabilities at a center designed for pediatric care. The first years of life are critical to a child's development, and children with disabilities can make the greatest progress through direct care provided by our experienced and dedicated licensed therapists. Turn Center builds a sound foundation for a child's learning and development, and thousands of children have been successfully treated.

A recent survey of patients indicates that most of our patient families earn less than $50,000 annually.  Childhood disabilities entail a range of immediate and long-term economic costs that have important implications for the well-being of the child, the family and society. There are direct, out-of-pocket costs incurred as a result of the child’s disability, indirect costs incurred by the family as it decides how best to cope with the disability and long-term costs associated with the child’s future economic performance. For instance, children who need therapy also often need a full-time parent at home.  So, in addition to increased medical expenses related to treatment, the household is on a limited single income.  All too often, parents of children with disabilities incur unexpected and immense out-of-pocket costs for treatments and services. In the longer term, disabilities also compromise a child’s schooling and capacity to acquire and maintain gainful employment as an adult.   Our passion is to serve these families who are already struggling with the financial, emotional and physical challenges of caring for a child with a disability.

What We Do

Turn Center is a private, non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to providing outstanding speech services, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to the children of the Texas Panhandle.   Turn Center is the exciting collaboration of The Amarillo Speech, Hearing, and Language Center with The Richard G. Balke Children’s Rehabilitation Center.  Our dedicated staff and board are committed to making a difference in our community while working with children with disabilities.  The mission of TurnCenter is to provide outstanding therapy services while instilling hope in the families that we serve.

Turn Center currently serves approximately 950 patients.  The target population for this program is residents of Amarillo and the surrounding rural communities.  Services are available to all people regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, political belief, religion, or disability.  Patients range in age from infancy to college age. Reduced fees are available so that no one will be turned away because of an inability to pay.
