Who We Are

The Amarillo Museum of Art serves as a vital community partner by using our collections, exhibitions and programs to fulfill our mission.  The AMoA welcomes and provides free admission to all.  We adhere to the highest professional standards and practices and have been an accredited museum by the American Alliance of Museums since 1979.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Amarillo Museum of Art is dedicated to enriching the lives of the diverse people of the Texas Panhandle area, bringing them together for the experience of art through exhibitions, education and collections.

The Museum's primary focuses are temporary exhibitions and education.  Each year the Museum presents approximately fifteen art exhibitions representing original works in all media, periods and styles, ranging from cutting edge to traditional.  The permanent collection totals more than 1,700 works, including both Asian and Western art, predominantly modern and contemporary American art.

What We Do

You love art, we love art. What a perfect match! Get behind-the-scenes at AMoA and share your love and enthusiasm for art with others. Volunteer at the museum and you can become part of our mission to connect people through art.

Exhibitions consist of local and travelling exhibitions, works from AMoA's Permanent Collection and selections from the William T. Price Collection of Asian Art.  Exhibitions change approximately every 8 weeks, so there is always something new to see at AMoA!

Tours and school visits give area students the opportunity to explore AMoA's collection, exhibitions and outreach programs.  All programs utilize elements of Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) as a means by which to develop critical thinking and observation skills and are conducted by trained staff and museum volunteers.

Museum School and Summer Art Camps offer in-depth art experiences for area youth ages 4-15.  Led by AMoA's teaching artists, these classes and camps teach kids how to look at, talk about and create art.

Young@Art, a program sponsored by the Mary E. Bivins Foundation, provides art education and art classes for seniors in retirement and assisted living centers.  Offered each fall and spring semester, the programs vary from art history and overviews of current AMoA exhibitions to hands-on art activities.

Special events round out AMoA's wide range of programs:

  • Opening Receptions for multiple exhibitions each year
  • artafterdark - a causal evening of art + music and food + drink
  • Ladd Lecture
  • 12 x 12 Exhibition and Silent Auction
  • Christmas Roundup - an annual Holiday Market hosted by the AMoA Alliance
  • Gallery Talks, Artists Workshops and Lectures
