Who We Are

The War Memorial is an IRS 501 (c) (3) charity serving the veterans in the 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. Our Education Center is available to the public to learn about the contributions of veterans to our country and freedom.

What We Do

The War Memorial Center manages our Veterans Memorial Park. The park has monuments to the wars the United States has engaged in beginning with the Spanish-American War. The names of all Panhandle Soldiers who died in combat in those wars are inscribed on monuments in the Park.

In our main building, the War Memorial offers veteran outreach with navigators who will help any veteran or a family member gain access to veteran benefits or programs by referring the veteran to the appropriate resource. We have the Panhandle's only Military Chapel, available free of charge to veterans and active duty military for weddings or funerals/memorial services. We are proud of our unique education center with five computer kiosks and three video programs. The kiosks feature eleven wars from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan, allowing the user to select a war and learn by answering about 20 multiple choice questions about each war. Two of the video programs are oral histories of Panhandle residents sharing experiences from WWII through the Vietnam war. The third video shows the geography and troop movements of all eleven wars.
