Volunteers may interact with children and families who come to the Center.  Volunteer will assist staff in making the clients feel comfortable.  Activities includes: playing board games, coloring, reading or watching a movie.

Interested in mentoring students through financial literacy and career choices?  Then we need you! You will serve as a role model by showing students the different opportunities life has to offer from your lived experience.

Volunteers present activity-based lessons 1 hour/week for 5-6 weeks. Curriculum, step-by-step lesson plan book, and training are provided by JAHP staff. Teachers stays in the classroom to help.

Do it with a friend! Bring a coworker or friend.

Bring your registered furry companion to help patients with comfort towards the end of their life. The Pet Therapy Volunteer serves as an additional support to patients, families, and caregivers by making friendly visits with his/her certified therapy animal. Visits may occur in the patient's home or in a professional care setting (subject to the rules of the facility). Both the Volunteer and certified therapy animal provide comfort, companionship, and a welcome distraction from the illness.

Our goal is to meet the needs of foster and adoptive children beyond whatthe foster care system provides. With a focus on building strongerconnections, we play a vital role in the well-being of children and families inour community. This grant will enable us to provide nutritious food at themonthly fellowships, cover the remainder of the expenses of Family Camp,not covered in the fundraisers, and provide gift cards for parent’s night out.

We need volunteers to help us keep the Gardens beautiful. Each week we have many tasks that volunteers help with such as dead-heading plants, weeding, planting, moving plants, and other activities necessary to help our Gardens grow. Most volunteers come out on Thursday afternoons at 1 to pitch in with the tasks needed to be completed. But other volunteers come out on other days to work in their favorite Garden.

Our Gardens rely on the dedication and passion of volunteers to thrive and flourish. Whether you have a green thumb or are looking to learn more about gardening, there is a place for you in our community of volunteers. From tending to the vibrant blooms to nurturing the soil, each task contributes to the beauty and serenity of our Gardens.

Join us as we come together to make a difference in our shared oasis. If Thursdays don't work for you, feel free to pick a day that suits your schedule best and immerse yourself in the joy of working in your favorite Garden. Together, we can cultivate a space that inspires and uplifts all who visit.

We want to do pop up shops with our merch at local fairs etc.  So, we're looking for volunteers to sign up to set up our booth at events and sell our merch and visit with people about our organization.  Need to be able to lift boxes and haul a tent and boxes.  

We're developing our fundraising team!  If this is something you're good at, we need your help!

We need extra help finding and writing grants for our organization.  If you've been a successful grant writer, especially with start up organizations, we would love to have you on our team!

Volunteers are needed to pack and unpack bins of promotional items that will be taken to the drives or have returned from mobile blood drives. Stocking donor room promotion items, as needed. T-shirts, snacks, blood drive kits, tubes, etc.

This volunteer will use a personal social media platform to educate on blood donation and engage online to encourage new donors, assist with promotion of blood drives and speak on blood donation to the community.

By becoming a mission ambassador, you can make a big impact in the safety of our community blood supply. You will help raise awareness about OBI through your personal social media accounts. This volunteer will get to create and to develop this opportunity, alongside the guide of Volunteer Services and our Creative team, making your own content and videos.

As a canteen host, this role is responsible for providing hospitality to donors after their donation. As the final point of contact in the donor experience, this volunteer will educate donors about additional opportunities to support the mission and programs of OBI at CMBC and assist in rebooking their next appointment. This volunteer will play a vital role in monitoring donors while in the canteen, keeping a watchful eye out of a donor reaction.

Volunteers are needed to greet and thank donors at community blood drives, which are held 7 days of the week at a variety of locations. If you are looking for a flexible volunteer opportunity, this one is for you!

Volunteers call our life-saving donors to share mobile blood drive information such as date, location, time, and to invite them to schedule their donation by making an appointment at the drive.

Volunteers will label empty blood bags for mobile blood drives. Blood donations cannot happen without the bags; therefore, this is a critical volunteer role which allows OBI's life-saving mission to be successful. There is a 2-hour training required for this role.

The Harrington House Foundation is searching for Mentors (tour guides), interested in the history of Amarillo and decorative arts. The house is closed to the public from mid-December through roughly April/May. Tours are given on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. and are approximately 50 minutes.

Our volunteers are trained about the house, its history, and its contents. The commitment after training is for either a Tuesday or Thursday, on alternating months starting in April or May. This year we are opening in May. Everyone will be on the schedule for the in-demand Christmas tours starting at the end of October through mid-December.

planting, gardening, weeding

and other activities that will help keep our landscaping nice.

Take and pick up the ladies to school, doctor or work when outside of Bus route or after hours.

CASA supports children and families in the child welfare system while increasing the well being of those children as well. We are of, and for the communities we serve and our volunteers provide a consistent presence in a child's life during their time in foster care. 

Every child deserves one caring, stable adult in their lives. Help us serve the over 800 children in foster care in our area! 

All interested applicants are required to complete an application, interview and background checks- CASA staff will provide guidance throughout the entire on-boarding process. Besides achieving clearance, an applicant will be required to choose a CASA training session to attend- CASA provides a training session every 6 weeks, fit to your schedule!

Painting, Landscaping, Cleaning

We are in need of volunteers who can help us resettle refugee families in their new homes in Amarillo. Please email us at mhokanson@rstx.org to find out and sign up for the opportunities to help make this transition to a new home a wonderful memory for all our newest community members.

Do you have a passion, skill set or hobby that you would like to share? We are looking for RST volunteers who have passed our background check to help with teaching/explaining topics or presenting workshops that pertain to acclimating to American culture.  This could also include teaching a skill set.  A few examples would be counting/using American money, sewing, emergency weather preparedness.  What ideas do you have?  

We are in need of volunteer drivers who can transport our newly arriving refugee families to and from medical appointments. Volunteers need to clear a background check.

We need a RST volunteer, or a few RST volunteers, who have passed our background check who would be willing to learn a couple bus routes and then teach those routes to clients.

We would like to have guest speakers come and speak for 5-7 minutes or more if needed about their business or non profit organization. This will help our members have another way to practice their listening skills and take note on how other people communicate. Thanks in advance. We meet every Tuesday on Zoom from 6pm-7pm. 

BECOME A MAKE-A-WISH NORTH TEXAS VOLUNTEER! Our volunteer program is designed to give each volunteer a diverse and rewarding experience while working towards fulfilling our mission: Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.  

We have many events and fundraisers throughout the year, usually in the evenings or on weekends. 

Event volunteers help plan, organize, and implement successful fundraising events by working on event committees, helping on the event day and/or participating in the event.  

Event volunteers can also help decorate, check in/out guests, monitor auction items, handle food, and escort wish families.  

For some events, we allow middle and high school students volunteer with tasks that do not require handling financial transactions or wish families.

Each year, United Way of Amarillo & Canyon engages dozens of citizens from across its community service area of Potter and Randall Counties to serve as Impact Volunteers.  These dedicated advocates assist United Way in the strategic investment of the annual campaign fund, a significant financial support for programs and services in Amarillo and Canyon addressing critical needs within United Way’s impact areas of Education, Income, and Health, and Basic Needs.

Based on their interest and experience, Impact Council Volunteers work in teams known as Impact Councils aligned to one of United Way’s focus areas to review and evaluate funding proposals for programs and services.  New Impact Volunteers are invited to attend an annual appreciation and information luncheon to learn about United Way and the overall Impact process. 

With demand being at an all-time high, High Plains Food Bank is in critical need of volunteer support of helping hands! We are looking for groups of up to 25 people to inspect, sort, and repack product into food boxes. All ages welcome with parent/guardian supervision.

We serve a large percentage of Spanish speaking with families, and with out Spanish speaking wish granters, we are not able to to quickly meet the needs of those Spanish speaking families. If you are fluent in both English and Spanish, please consider becoming a wish granter.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle is expanding our Fundraising and Volunteer Committees and we are looking for new members here in our community.  We are needing people who love to plan, have fun, and help out great causes.  

Fundraising/Event Committee

Amarillo/Canyon -We are looking for people who are great at fundraising.  We have three major events that we host each year including Bowl for Kids' Sake, Mentoring Matters and Clay for Kids' Sake.  We are needing volunteers to help in the planning, execution, and sponsorships of each of our events.  If you have event and fundraising experience, we'd love to talk with you.   

Perryton/Spearman/Gruver - We are looking for people who are great at fundraising.  Walk For Kids sake is hosted typically in the spring each year.  We are needing volunteers to help in the planning, execution and sponsorships.  If you are interested in helping we would LOVE to visit with you.

You can make a huge impact in someone’s life by helping us provide food to those who are experiencing food insecurity in Amarillo and the surrounding area by donating your time in helping us prepare food boxes. We continue to serve our senior population who are experiencing food insecurity and those of any age affected by COVID-19.

We are seeking volunteers to unload, stock, sort, and bag or box food. Volunteer hours can be anytime between Monday through Friday 9 am to 3 pm, with additional hours available on Wednesdays (5:00 to 6:00 pm). Currently we are distributing food to individuals on a drive-thru basis while following safety protocols to include mandatory use of face masks and gloves.

Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle is seeking tutors to support our Adult ESL Instructors who are teaching English as a Second Language curriculum in a diverse classroom setting to improve our student's English reading, writing and speaking skills. Depending on your comfort and skill level, you may support in a teaching role or as a tutor. 

The Amarillo Art Institute is undergoing a large renovation project, which will result in some organizational changes as the organization progresses into the management role for the facility. We are looking for board members who have a passion for the arts and can provide guidance and support during this process.

AAI Board Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. Annual meetings take place every March after the regularly scheduled board meeting.

A match between a child and mentor that meet one-to-one during the school day, typically during the child’s lunch period. This particular setting provides additional support systems for our mentors. Site based activities can include but are not limited to, playing sports, arts and crafts or working on homework.

Virtual Based Program:

A match between a child and mentor that meet through virtual means including Zoom, Facetime, Texts, and phone calls. Matches can play online games together, work on homework, and get to know each other.

Kids still need mentors, and it's more important now that it has ever been.  They need you.

Men:

More than 75% of our children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having a positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in a boy’s life. So join the hundreds of volunteers that have given a young person someone to look up to. And learn why so many are

The Salvation Army- Homeless Shelter and Church

Is looking for passionate volunteers to be role models for our youth. Sunday school teachers/helpers and bus monitors needed.

SUNDAY :

Early bus monitor: 8:30-9:45 a.m.

Sunday School Teacher/Helper: 9:45-11:45 a.m.

Late bus monitor: 12:15-1:30 p.m.

SATURDAY:

Youth program helper: 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Bus monitors sit on the bus with children going to and from programs and help ensure safety. Sunday school teachers/helpers use pre-planned curriculum to lead the children in their small groups through craft and discussion times.

2-1-1 Texas United Way Contact Center of United Way of Amarillo & Canyon is looking for volunteers to help answer calls. Between the hurricanes and Pandemic, we are overloaded and would deeply appreciate your time. 

It requires about 2 hours of training and hours are 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., whichever weekdays you can help. 

This is a great opportunity to be on the front lines of helping those who are most vulnerable right now.

The retreat center is in need of expertise on grant writing.  Looking for someone who has time to investigate grant opportunities and has grant writing experience.

NHAA needs help in picking up trash and debris in and around the old St. Anthony's Hospital Complex as well as lawncare in adjacent parking areas.

Partners in Palo Duro Canyon Foundation was established in 1997 as a means of financially helping our canyon in ways the the state couldn't provide.

All of our Proceeds go directly into Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The volunteer position is very rewarding in many aspects. We welcome people into the park in the Visitors Center located on the rim of the canyon.

Our inventory includes handmade Native pottery, silver and turquoise jewelry from various tribes, beadwork from Comanche, Kiowa and Apache, which once inhabited this canyon.

We also carry a large variety of hard to find books and Original as well as signed prints from different artists, and handmade knives.

We offer 4 hour shifts to our volunteers. We would love to have you work at least one shift per week.

We have a full service commercial kitchen, dining room and Executive Chef on staff.  We often need kitchen help when having a function.

We have 47 double occupancy guest rooms with private bathrooms.  We often need help in our laundry to wash and fold bedding and towels.

During business hours we often have a need for someone to answer the phone or do minor clerical work.

The Bishop DeFalco Retreat Center sits on 12 acres and is often in need of trash pick up, tree trimming and brush clean out.

We have a  raised flower bed at our entrance and a beautiful enclosed courtyard with raised and ground level flowerbeds.  We are in need of volunteers to keep the beds weeded and maintained.

The Salvation Army homeless shelter is looking for volunteers to come and help in the kitchen on the weekends, afternoons, and evenings.   

The Gift Shop Clerk sells items in our Museum Gift Shop. All items are barcoded and scanned into the register. Most sales are by credit card. 

The Museum Guide assists visitors use the Education Center's five computer kiosks and video displays. Assistance is showing a visitor how to use the touch screen to select one of eleven wars, and answer multiple choice questions about the war. The video displays show a recorded program on a continuous loop; the visitor merely has to stand in the correct spot in front of the television to be able to clearly hear the narration. The Guide also walks through the small museum of exhibits and monitors visitor activity.

Navigators help veterans or their family research benefits available to veterans or family members and make referrals to the appropriate agency who can satisfy that need. Navigators are provided resource lists and telephone numbers and will be provided ongoing training. Being a veteran or spouse of a veteran is a plus because of familiarity of benefits.

Sits at front desk. Answers telephone calls and questions. Greets visitors and answers questions or directs visitors to proper office. Sells tickets to visitors to Education Center. Other duties assigned by supervisor. 

We need a volunteer to help out at our Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 1211 SE 27th Ave in Amarillo. This person would help organize items, answer phones, and help the staff with day to day operations. Thrift Store volunteers are always needed at the three stores operated by the Downtown Women's Center.  Volunteer opportunities include sorting through the donations that we receive, and getting the items ready to sell.  This is also a great opportunity to work with some of our women that are going through our recovery program.  It takes a village, and volunteering your time at our stores not only helps us reduce our overhead, it provides great role models for our women, and helps build lifetime friendships.

We need volunteers to help with our Veterans Resource Center! 

The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is a drop-in facility that provides veterans, family members and surviving spouses with the opportunity to meet peers, apply for benefits, and receive mental health services and referrals to other resources. The VRC also provides individual, family and marital counseling and equine therapy.

The VRC is directed by a peer-support trained veteran who will refer veterans and their family members to appropriate resources. The VRC will also provide online community-based application assistance services.

Did you know that Family Support Services operates the only crisis hotline in Potter and Randall Counties for those experiencing sexual assault, trafficking or family violence? Our hotline received almost 2,500 calls last year.

Volunteer Hotline Interventionist answer the Hotline for Sexual Assaults and Domestic Violence and provide callers with emotional support, education about the dynamics and impact of abuse,  and often provide someone with the emotional space to decide what their life could look like free of the abuse. These calls can be life changing for someone.

If this sounds interesting, we want you to be a part of our team! We will provide you with 20 hours of training. Shifts are flexible based on your availability and a perfect fit for a college student who can work on class assignments between calls and still make a positive impact in our community.

Come make a real difference in the life of a fellow Panhandle area resident! We build wheelchair ramps for people that need here in the Amarillo and the Panhandle area at no cost to them. We provide tools (you can bring your own if you prefer) and guide all skill levels through the construction of the ramp. Usually requires 3-4 hours and the result is truly life-changing for the resident as they have the freedom to get out of their home on their own once again. Come help out! Individuals and groups are welcome! Questions? Just ask.

The Texas Ramp Project - Panhandle area works with the City of Amarillo, social-services organizations, government agencies, and healthcare services to identify clients who need a ramp. The Salvation Army is starting Emergency Disaster Services in the Amarillo Area. If you would like to earn your creditionals and be a volunteer when a disaster strikes give us a call. A background chekc will need to be run and  along with training to earn your creditionals. 

Loaned Executives (LE’s) are responsible for scheduling and assisting in a company’s fundraising campaign. Employee Campaign Coordinators work within their own company by collaborating with the CEO and Loaned Executive to plan and implement the company campaign. Loaned Executives are volunteers that help United Way function efficiently and smoothly. Providing or acting as an LE or ECC also has benefits to the company and the individual such as increased visibility of company in the community, networking with other businesses, positive impact on community, improved public speaking and leadership skills of employees, and better teamwork and public spirit within company. The Loaned Executives will work in tandam with the United Way annual campaign which runs August to November.
