Mad Scientist Ball Volunteers support one of the Discovery Center's biggest fundraising events of the year! Volunteers may assist with event setup, guest check-in, activity stations, raffle and auction support, wayfinding, cleanup, and general event operations. This role is a great fit for individuals who enjoy special events, guest interaction, and helping create a fun and memorable fundraising experience. 

SHIFTS:

The event runs from 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM, with an additional hour before and after the event for setup and cleanup. Volunteer opportunities are split into two shifts:

Event Setup Shift: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Assist with event setup. Volunteers in this shift will be able to enjoy the remainder of the event after their volunteer duties are complete.

Event Support Shift: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Assist with event setup, guest services, activities, and event operations. Volunteers in this shift will be able to enjoy the remainder of the event after their volunteer duties are complete.

Cleanup Shift: 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM
Help break down event spaces, clean up activity areas, pack supplies, and return the Discovery Center to normal operations following the event

Join us September 4–5, 2026 at Ceta Canyon as we create a weekend filled with crafts, sensory‑friendly activities, games, s’mores, and quiet spaces where parents and kids can finally relax. Volunteers help with simple but powerful roles: welcoming families, leading craft stations (like name tote bags, lanterns, cactus families, and handprint art), running game and “S’more Fun” squads, serving snacks, and offering extra encouragement at the pool, on the playground, and around camp.

You don’t have to be a teacher or an expert—just kind, willing to learn, and ready to support families who have kids with special needs. We will hold trauma‑informed volunteer training for you ahead of camp so you feel prepared to respond in ways that help campers feel safe, calm, and included.

Are you a Veteran and looking to give back to other Veterans?

The Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer Program aims to pair recruited Veteran Volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as Veterans. Once paired with hospice patients who also have military experience, Veteran Volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient thereby creating an environment where life review and healing may occur.

The end of life can be a scary and difficult situation for most. As a volunteer, you can provide patients with the support and love they may be missing and help them along the journey. Giving your time and attention to an individual who is at the end of their life, can not only benefit the individual, but can also benefit you!

Come make a difference!

Serve as an additional support to patients and families dealing with a terminal illness and end-of-life issues. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including the provision of companionship and socialization to patients, or offering respite to stressed caregivers. Some other support a volunteer can provide is singing to patients, playing musical instruments, doing art with patients, poetry, reading, etc.

Come sing, draw, paint, play your musical instrument or whatever creative specialty you can provide for hospice patients! Imagine bringing a smile to other's faces by doing what you love. Most hospice patients are stuck in their home or facility with little to no socialization. Your presence can make a big difference in their lives! Some duties can also include: light housekeeping, puzzles, reading, etc. (optional)

Conduct weekly tuck in calls (phone calls) to patients on the list to ensure they have all their supplies, medication, etc. before the weekend!

Fill out tuck in call form and report back to Volunteer Coordinator. I update the list weekly and send to volunteer, easy peasy!

Bring your registered furry companion to help patients with comfort towards the end of their life. The Pet Therapy Volunteer serves as an additional support to patients, families, and caregivers by making friendly visits with his/her certified therapy animal. Visits may occur in the patient's home or in a professional care setting (subject to the rules of the facility). Both the Volunteer and certified therapy animal provide comfort, companionship, and a welcome distraction from the illness.

Custodial Floor Support Volunteers help the Discovery Center maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for guests. Volunteers may assist custodial staff with vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning common areas, and supporting general facility upkeep. This role is a great fit for individuals who want a hands-on way to support the Discovery Center

Daily Program Volunteers help bring science and discovery to life by supporting hands-on activities and educational programs at the Discovery Center. Volunteers may help prepare materials, facilitate activities, engage with guests, provide front desk administrative support, and provide general program support throughout the year. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Discovery Center, and also the 250th anniversary for our country.

We are having a huge celebration, called DISCOVER! 5.0 Saturday, Sept. 5th, 2026 Located at Medi-Park by the Discovery Center.

The Amarillo Symphony will put on a great show, along with a Drone show finale. Insufficient Funds will rock Medi-Park, including many other acts and activities from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

We need volunteers just like you to come and help us with this celebration. You will receive a shirt, hang out with the public, and help our VIP’s, it won’t be hard work at all!

Heart Gallery photo displays throughout the Texas Panhandle need to be updated and changed monthly. Volunteers are needed to update displays in Amarillo, Canyon, Hereford, Pampa, Dumas, Borger, Perryton, and Wheeler. Photos are located in Amarillo and need to be transported to the listed communities.

Volunteer photographers are needed throughout the Texas panhandle to photograph children awaiting adoption. 

Position Summary:

Advocates under the direction of the Community Mental Health Program Manager, will provide advocacy services to Survivors of Suicide Loss (family members and close friends of someone who died by suicide). These services include emotional support, education, information and referrals as well as check-in calls at various occasions and timeframes. 

Qualifications:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.

2. Ability to work independently and responsibly.

3. Ability to work empathically, with people of all ages, sexual orientations, gender identifications, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds in a professional, non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner. 

4. Must complete the LOSS Training Session in its entirety.

5. Valid Texas Driver's License and proof of auto insurance. 

6. Personal suicide experience is no less than one year prior to training state date. 

7. Must complete and pass a background check. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. To be available for a minimum of 1 shift per week.

2. To respond to SOS within 30 minutes of dispatch call.

3. To provide clients and their families with emotional support, compassion, information, and referrals as needed and to remain with the SOS until the immediate crisis has ended.

4. To adhere to the LOSS Program and Amarillo Public Health rules and procedures.

5. To submit all required paperwork obtained during the client engagement within 2 business days.

6. To maintain the confidentiality of the client and LOSS Program information.

7. Attend monthly in-service debriefing meetings as scheduled.

Our Health Information, Counseling, and Advocacy Program (HICAP) volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the elderly and their caregivers by providing invaluable guidance on benefits-related matters. From navigating Medicare and Medicaid to understanding Social Security and supplemental insurance needs, our volunteers are equipped to address tough questions with clarity and compassion.

One of the most pressing needs is helping individuals and families decipher the complexities of Medicare Part D plans. Our volunteers undergo rigorous training to ensure they can explain these intricacies in simple, understandable terms.

To become a HICAP benefits counseling volunteer, individuals must complete a comprehensive four-day training session. We understand that scheduling constraints can be a challenge, so for groups of three or more, we offer mobile training sessions conducted at their location.

We are currently seeking volunteers in rural areas to help increase knowledge and make assistance more accessible. If you reside in any of the 26 counties of the Panhandle, we would be delighted to welcome you to this much-needed support team.

Providing or acting as an EL or ECC also has benefits to the company and the individual such as increased visibility of company in the community, networking with other businesses, positive impact on community, improved public speaking and leadership skills of employees, and better teamwork and public spirit within company. The Loaned Executives will work in tandem with the United Way of Amarillo & Canyon annual campaign which runs August to November.

Patsy's Place Transitional Home is seeking volunteers to transport women to and from medical and legal appointments, as well as places of employment. Transportation volunteers will need to have flexible schedules and be able to meet the following requirements:

Transportation volunteers will use Sharing Hope Ministry vehicles to transport women to their appointments until the women are able to secure their own means of transportation. 

Panhandle Cancer Cure Foundation is seeking applicants to join the Board of Directors.

We are a local 501 (c) (3) that focuses on easing the financial burden of those going through a cancer or blood disease diagnosis who are from or seeking treatment in the Texas Panhandle. This has been our mission since 2009, and we continue the fight with director support to patients, a patient pantry, and support groups.

PCCF is a financially stable and established non-profit. Our needs are to add active and engaged members of the board. The commitment is to attend approximately. 10 board meetings a month, work on commitments or with officers, and help with operations such as application processing, event planning, bookkeeping, website, and social media operations as needed. It's a more hands-on and active role than most boards, and that is why it takes a dedicated and committed person to be a PCCF board member.

We need members from all walks of life, but have need of those with skills that would benefit PCCF, such as a lawyer, CPA, marketing, or branding. All are encouraged to apply.

The Greater Amarillo Foster Parent Association is seeking donations of gift cards from the community for our holiday support program. These gift cards will be given to foster and adoptive families to help brighten their holiday season and provide them with much-needed support. Any contribution, big or small, can make a difference for families in our community. Your generosity will go a long way in showing these families how much they are appreciated during the holiday season.

The Greater Amarillo Foster Parent Association is in need of a photographer to capture the moments and memories of our monthly meetings, held on the 2nd Saturday of every month. Your photography will help us highlight our events, connect with the community, and document the amazing work being done to support foster families in the Amarillo area. Do you run a business that offers fun activities for children or have any creative ideas you'd like to share? We're looking for exciting new activities to engage our kids while their parents attend a separate session. In the past, we've done things like painting, tie-dye, bouncy houses, carnival games, and even planting activities. Now, we're on the lookout for fresh ideas or donations of fun activities to keep the kiddos entertained and active. If you're able to contribute or have a unique idea, we'd love to hear from you! GAFPA foster families pour out their lives to take care of the foster childrenin the Amarillo area. This means they are constantly giving their time,energy and personal resources to take care of their daily needs. As anorganization, we provide a carnival/Friendsgiving celebration with games,candy and prizes and a Christmas Breakfast where we provide food, holidaycrafts, photos with Santa and gift cards for every child and the parents. Thegrant will help us provide crafts, a festive atmosphere and supplement thecost of the meals.

Special events volunteers will be responsible for decorating for the holidays and special functions. Assist with events as needing in varying capacities.

Volunteers may interact with children and families who come to the Center.  Volunteer will assist staff in making the clients feel comfortable.  Activities includes: playing board games, coloring, reading or watching a movie.

Interested in mentoring students through financial literacy and career choices?  Then we need you! You will serve as a role model by showing students the different opportunities life has to offer from your lived experience.

Volunteers present activity-based lessons 1 hour/week for 5-6 weeks. Curriculum, step-by-step lesson plan book, and training are provided by JAHP staff. Teachers stays in the classroom to help.

Our goal is to meet the needs of foster and adoptive children beyond whatthe foster care system provides. With a focus on building strongerconnections, we play a vital role in the well-being of children and families inour community. This grant will enable us to provide nutritious food at themonthly fellowships, cover the remainder of the expenses of Family Camp,not covered in the fundraisers, and provide gift cards for parent’s night out.

We need volunteers to help us keep the Gardens beautiful. Each week we have many tasks that volunteers help with such as dead-heading plants, weeding, planting, moving plants, and other activities necessary to help our Gardens grow. Most volunteers come out on Thursday afternoons at 1 to pitch in with the tasks needed to be completed. But other volunteers come out on other days to work in their favorite Garden.

Our Gardens rely on the dedication and passion of volunteers to thrive and flourish. Whether you have a green thumb or are looking to learn more about gardening, there is a place for you in our community of volunteers. From tending to the vibrant blooms to nurturing the soil, each task contributes to the beauty and serenity of our Gardens.

Join us as we come together to make a difference in our shared oasis. If Thursdays don't work for you, feel free to pick a day that suits your schedule best and immerse yourself in the joy of working in your favorite Garden. We want to do pop up shops with our merch at local fairs etc.  So, we're looking for volunteers to sign up to set up our booth at events and sell our merch and visit with people about our organization.  Need to be able to lift boxes and haul a tent and boxes.  

We're developing our fundraising team!  If this is something you're good at, we need your help!

We need extra help finding and writing grants for our organization.  If you've been a successful grant writer, especially with start up organizations, we would love to have you on our team!

Volunteers are needed to pack and unpack bins of promotional items that will be taken to the drives or have returned from mobile blood drives. Stocking donor room promotion items, as needed. T-shirts, snacks, blood drive kits, tubes, etc.

This volunteer will use a personal social media platform to educate on blood donation and engage online to encourage new donors, assist with promotion of blood drives and speak on blood donation to the community.

By becoming a mission ambassador, you can make a big impact in the safety of our community blood supply. You will help raise awareness about OBI through your personal social media accounts. This volunteer will get to create and to develop this opportunity, alongside the guide of Volunteer Services and our Creative team, making your own content and videos.

As a canteen host, this role is responsible for providing hospitality to donors after their donation. As the final point of contact in the donor experience, this volunteer will educate donors about additional opportunities to support the mission and programs of OBI at CMBC and assist in rebooking their next appointment. This volunteer will play a vital role in monitoring donors while in the canteen, keeping a watchful eye out of a donor reaction.

Volunteers are needed to greet and thank donors at community blood drives, which are held 7 days of the week at a variety of locations. If you are looking for a flexible volunteer opportunity, this one is for you!

Volunteers call our life-saving donors to share mobile blood drive information such as date, location, time, and to invite them to schedule their donation by making an appointment at the drive.

Volunteers will label empty blood bags for mobile blood drives. Blood donations cannot happen without the bags; therefore, this is a critical volunteer role which allows OBI's life-saving mission to be successful. There is a 2-hour training required for this role.

The Harrington House Foundation is searching for Mentors (tour guides), interested in the history of Amarillo and decorative arts. The house is closed to the public from mid-December through roughly April/May. Tours are given on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. and are approximately 50 minutes.

Our volunteers are trained about the house, its history, and its contents. The commitment after training is for either a Tuesday or Thursday, on alternating months starting in April or May. This year we are opening in May. Everyone will be on the schedule for the in-demand Christmas tours starting at the end of October through mid-December.

and other activities that will help keep our landscaping nice.

Take and pick up the ladies to school, doctor or work when outside of Bus route or after hours.

CASA supports children and families in the child welfare system while increasing the well being of those children as well. We are of, and for the communities we serve and our volunteers provide a consistent presence in a child's life during their time in foster care. 

Every child deserves one caring, stable adult in their lives. Help us serve the over 800 children in foster care in our area! 

All interested applicants are required to complete an application, interview and background checks- CASA staff will provide guidance throughout the entire on-boarding process. Besides achieving clearance, an applicant will be required to choose a CASA training session to attend- CASA provides a training session every 6 weeks, fit to your schedule!

Painting, Landscaping, Cleaning

We are in need of volunteers who can help us resettle refugee families in their new homes in Amarillo. Please email us at mhokanson@rstx.org to find out and sign up for the opportunities to help make this transition to a new home a wonderful memory for all our newest community members.

Do you have a passion, skill set or hobby that you would like to share? We are looking for RST volunteers who have passed our background check to help with teaching/explaining topics or presenting workshops that pertain to acclimating to American culture.  This could also include teaching a skill set.  A few examples would be counting/using American money, sewing, emergency weather preparedness.  What ideas do you have?  

We are in need of volunteer drivers who can transport our newly arriving refugee families to and from medical appointments. Volunteers need to clear a background check.

We need a RST volunteer, or a few RST volunteers, who have passed our background check who would be willing to learn a couple bus routes and then teach those routes to clients.
