Who We Are

Mission Amarillo exists to improve the lives of people in poverty in the Amarillo area. We do this by providing resources based in Christian values to be used by the church, individuals, businesses, and civic organizations to make an impact, both short and long term, in the lives of the less fortunate.

Values

The following values form the foundation for all we do as an organization:

  • We seek to honor the God given dignity each person has as one created in God’s image and for His glory.

  • We provide opportunity for the church, individuals, businesses, and civic groups to engage the less fortunate in our community and to make a difference in their lives.

  • We focus on providing help that has both short and long term impact, but does not create dependency.

  • We are committed to developing and providing resources that both compliment and utilize existing programs, ministries, and resources in our community.

What We Do

There's a 1-2-3 to Mission Amarillo. One shoe closet, two affordable stores, and three mentoring programs. Our shoe closet has given away over 850 pairs of shoes so far in the 2015-16 school year and over 6,700 pairs of shoes since the shoe closet's inception in August of 2010. We give away the shoes free of charge to students who need them. The students have little to no control over their situation, so we gladly give freely to the helpless in our community.

Our Affordable Back to School Store and the Affordable Christmas Store provides family with an affordable means for school supplies and Christmas presents. Families can acquire school supplies for $10 per backpack and a maximum of $20 per family. Our Affordable Christmas Store allows families to purchase $50 worth of Christmas presents for $10. Currently, we focus our affordable stores on schools in the Caprock cluster. We are currently supporting four schools with this project but hope to expand both stores to all Caprock cluster schools in the years to come.

We have three mentoring programs, Driven, the Parent Child Home Program, and Be-Loved. To see more on each of these programs, please visit our website at www.missionamarillo.org.
